I have had unprotected sex

It's a fact of life that slip-ups happen with contraception. Maybe your usual method has failed (condom split, missed pill) or you just didn't use any contraception.

Young women who have had unprotected sex need to take EHC as soon as possible. EHC can be used up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex and can prevent pregnancy but is more effective the sooner you take it. It is free to women under 25, including under 16s, from pharmacies displaying the EHC logo.

Find out more about EHC here.

If it has been more than 3 days you can still get an IUD fitted up to 5 days after unprotected sex. You need to make an appointment at a Contraception service as soon as possible.

If you have had sex without using a condom (even if you were using another form of contraception) there is a chance that you could have picked up a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI). As many as 1 in 14 young people have an STI and they can often have no symptoms at all so it is important to get yourself checkout out.
